Afrikaans music is one of my passions and I hope I can make a contribution through my music. “I’m a quiet guy who loves my country, my family and a glass of red wine every now and then. On his journey through life, he has met many interesting people that contributed to all the stories that he tells with so much compassion through his music. Wessels’ songs are all original and written from personal experiences. He has since released three other albums. In the same year, he won the Huisgenoot Tempo Award as the favourite newcomer and in 2006, he released his second album Halley se Komeet. The massive hit song “Leeuloop” was used by Vodacom for their advertising campaign and suddenly the whole country knew who Robbie Wessels was. In 2002, he became known as the character Poena in the popular TV series Gauteng alêng-alêng. In 2005 he surprised the country with his talent as a singer and songwriter with the album My Vissermanvriend se Pa. He matriculated in the Western Cape at Hoërskool Strand and got his diploma in Drama at Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, Gauteng. He was born in the Free State where he grew up on a farm near Kroonstad. Humour definitely one of his strong points and it is this combined with his more soulful side that makes him one of South Africa’s most endearing artists. Wessels is one-of-a-kind, with a special ability to make people laugh as well as encourage deeper thinking.
